Sorrento and Capri

 Jatkoimme matkaamme Pompeista ja Vesuviukselta lähdettyämme kapeaa rannikkotietä kohden Sorrenton niemeä ja kaupunkia.  Ohitimme matkalla muutamia pienempiä kaupunkeja ja upeita näkymiä korkealta vuoristosta kauas alas rantoihin.  Ajaa piti kieli keskellä suuta, sillä tämä tie on monin paikoin tosi kapeaa ja mutkaista ja kun alla on vielä vieras vuokra-auto niin ei ollenkaan huvita joutua kolhituksi tai itse kolhia muita tai kallionreunoja kapeissa paikoissa.
We continued our tour from Pompeii and Vesuvius along a small coastroad againgst Sorrento cape and town.  We drove by some smaller towns and fantastic seems from steep mountains to the waterfront and beaches far down. You had to drive with "your tongue in the middle of your mouth", because this way was really narrow and winding on some places and when you drive a foreign rent car, so one wish not to get dented or dent others' cars or scratch against walls/rocks on thouse narrow sites.

Illan suussa kun aurinko jo alkoi laskeutumaan olimme löytäneet hotellimme Sorrentossa saaneet parkattua auton turvallisesti hotellin takapihaan ja lähdimme vaeltamaan Sorrenton kaduille ja satamaan.  Viime mainitun teimme ajatellen seuraavan aamun lähtöämme moottoriveneellä Caprille.  Totesimme kuitenkin matkan satamaan sen verran hankalaksi että päätimme jättää sen aamulla taksin tehtäväksi kävelyn sijasta.

In the evening, when the sun was almost setting, we had found our hotel in Sorrento, parked tha car safely on the hotelparking and we began walking on Sorrentos streets and to the harbour.  The last thing we did specially to be known the way down thinking our next day's boattrip to Capri island. We found though the way so inconvenient that we decided to take taxi instead for walking.

Sorrenton satamaa.  Meidän lauttamme Caprille lähti tuon pitkälle oikealle kääntyvän laiturin loppupäästä (kuva alla) ja liput ostettiin aivan kuvan alaosassa näkyvästä kaarevasta rakennuksesta.  Caprille meni useita lauttoja, myös hieman eri hintaisia.  Kuvan taustalla näkyy Vesuvius, Napolin lahtea vasemmalla ja Pompei Vesuviuksen oikealla puolella.

Sorrento harbour.  Our boat to Capri started on the end of the pier  to right.  Tickets were bought in the curvy building (photo hereunder) on the down part in the picture.  There were several boats which go to Capri and they have a little different prices, too.  On the background is Vesuvius with Napoli bay on its left side and Pompei on the right side.

Niin kapeaa katua ei Italiassa olekaan, etteikö sen varrelle voi edes paria pöytää voi ravintolaa varten asetella!
There is no small street in Italy that you could not put a few tables there for a restaurant!

Aamulla lähtö Caprille laivalla.  Tässä (alla) jo Caprin rantaa (Marina Grande) lähtiessämme toisella laivalla edelleen katsomaan "Sinistä luolaa" saaren toisessa päässä.

In the morning we startet to Capri with boat.  Here (under) already picture from Capri's harbour (Marina Grande) when we continued with another boat to see the "Blue Cave" (Grotto) in the other end of the island.

Me jouduimme odottelemaan melkoisen pitkän aikaa, ennen kuin meidät poimittiin laivastamme tuollaiseen pieneen soutuveneeseen. Jokaiseen soutuveneeseen mahtui vain nelisen henkeä soutajan lisäksi.  Ihmisiä jonotti veneisiin myös kuvan oikeassa reunassa rappusilla.  Nämä olivat ajaneet saaren poikki busseilla, kulkien sitten jotain polkuja ja rappusia alas vesirajaan myös odottamaan veneitä ja pääsyä luolaan.  Kuvan keskellä näkyy aukko jonka läpi veneet liukuivat luolaan.  Aukko on niin matala, ettei luolaan voi päästä nousuveden tai myrskyn aikana.  Meidänkin piti nojata taaksepäin lähes makuuasentoon veneessä, jotta mahduimme aukosta.

We had to wait rather a long time before we were picked up in a small rowboat. In every little boat there were only place for about 4 people with the rowman.  I suppose there were totally about 7-8 bigger boat with people waiting to come in the cave.  You see also people on the stages to the right in the photo.  They drove with busses over the island and walked then along path and stares down to the waterline, there waiting as well to come to small rowboats.  In the middle of the photo the opening of the cave, if there is high or stormy water you cannot get to the cave - its is too low opening.  We also now had to lie down so long it was possible to come through the opening.

Vesi oli uskomattoman näköistä, sen sanotaan johtuvan vedenalaisen aukon läpi luolaan virtaavasta auringonvalosta.  Luolassa oli erittäin vaikea ottaa kuvia kun veneet kulkivat edestakain ja keinuttivat vettä ja toisiaan ja valo oli vähäinen.  Huomasin kyllä myöhemmin etteivät kaikkien esitteidenkään

kuvat olleet paljon kummempia!

The water looks quite incredible.  They say it is because there flows sunlight to the cave through a opening under water.  It was very difficult to take photos in the cave when rowboats went forward and back and rocking the water as well, and the lightning was't the best, but I noticed aftewards that the photos in several brochures were not so very different!

Päätimme kokeilla köysirataa Caprilla päästäksemme saaren korkeimmalle kohdalle, Monte Solarolle.  Näköalat olivat upeita.

We decided to try a  cabel car on Capri to take us to the highest punkt, to Monte Solaro. Wonderful views.

  Päivä Caprilla, mm. odotuksien takia pitkäksi venyneen luolakäynnin vuoksi kului aivan liian nopeasti.  Samoin  myös sekä lippujen ostoihin, köysirataan ja kapeiden teiden ruuhkiin kului aikaa niin paljon, että emme ehtineet tutkia lähemmin kovinkaan paljon sen enempää Anacaprin kuin Caprinkaan ostoskatuja emmekä myöskään ehtineet Villa San Micheliin, eli ruotsalaisen lääkärin Axel Munthen aikanaan rakennuttamaan huvilaan.  Näimme vilauksen ulkopuolelta ja hieman puistikkoa, mutta sitten meidän piti kiirehtiä jälleen vuorelta alas Caprin satamaan, jossa 

laiva johon olimme saaneet liput oli jo lähdössä takaisin Sorrentoon.  Vaikka olimme liikenteessä aivan syyskuun lopussa, oli turistien virta edelleen melkoinen ja oli vaikea enää saada  lippuja eikä ilman jonotuksia päässyt juuri minnekään.  Tulimme siihen tulokseen, että Capria varten olisi pitänyt varata kaksi päivää, mutta ehkä palaamme vielä joskus...!?

The day on Capri passed all too fast, among other things because we had so long waiting time to the Blue cave.  Also othe things like buying tickets, taking the capel car and the trafikk on narrow ways took so much time that we did not to managed to the end to look much to either Anacapri's or Capri's

shoppingstreets, neither the Villa San Michele on Monte Solare, a beautiful house which Axel Munthe, a Swedish doctor, who in his time let build there.  We had to rush down to the harbour again, because out boat to Sorrento, which we had tickets to, was leaving.  We were travelling quite in the end of September, but the stream of tourists was still so hard that it was'nt easy to get just the tickets you wanted and you did not manage anything without queues. That's why we found out that we should have received two days to visit Capri, but maybe we return there one day....!?

Palatessamme alas satamaan, Marina Grandeen,  taksilla, otin kuvia kohdatessamme eräässä kapeassa tien mutkassa keltaista bussia.  Kuten näkyy ei varaa ollut kovinkaan paljoa autojan välillä ja bussi näkyi olleen aikaisemmin vieläkin tiukemmassa kohtauksessa kyljen naarmuista päätellen!

When we returned down to the harbour, Marina Grande, with a cap, I took photos when we were meeting a buss in  a narrow swing on the road.  There weren't much margin between us, and it seemed that the buss had even been in rougher places concluding of the many scratches on it side!

Kun palasimme Sorrentoon, makasi lahdella kaksi suurta risteilyalusta. Lähimmästä päästettiin juuri ihmiset pienemmillä laivoilla kaupunkiin.  Lisää turisteja ja jonoja!
When we came back to Sorrento, there ware two big cruiseboats lying in the bay. The nearest just leaving people in smaller boats to Sorrento. More tourists and queues!

 Yllä kuva eräästä Sorrenton hienoimmista hotelleista.  Me elelimme kuitenkin paljon vaatimattomammin. Ainoat kriteerit hotelin valinnassa meillä oli, että saisimme parkeerattua automme helposti hotellissa ja että se oli siisti.  Hotelli Leone hieman ylempänä kaupungissa täytti hyvin nämä vaatimukset, eikä aamiainenkaan ollut hullumpi, ja palvelu hyvää.  Huone sopivan kokoinen ja puhdas, kylpyhuone myös. Hotellissa oli aamiaishuone ja kaunis pieni puutarha.  Voimme suositella!

This is one of the Sorrento's fine hotels.  We lived though much more modest.  Our demands were only that we had a free P-place for our rent car and that the hotell was nice and clean.  Hotel Leone a little higher in the town fullfild these demands, and the breakfast was not bad either, and the service was good. The rom was of nice size and clean and the bath, too.  Hotel had a nice breakfast room and a beautiful small garden.  We can remmond!

Nautimme viimeisestä auringonlaskusta tällä puolen niemeä, seuraavana päivänä matka jatkui toisella puolen, pitkin Amalfin rannikkoa.

We enjoyed our last sunset on this side of the cape, next day our way continued on the other side, along the Amalfi coast.
